By completing an internship in an international company, our students have the unique opportunity to apply the intercultural knowledge acquired in class directly in the workplace.

Our students are responsible for finding their own corporate project / internship. This can be in a company or organization in Switzerland, Europe, China or any other place in the world.*

Our MAS students who are able to secure an internship in Switzerland will be able to qualify for a Swiss work permit for that internship position. The internship period supported by the EABM program is strictly 6-8 months.

On the one hand, the compulsory part of this diploma course covers selected core banking topics such as the regulation of banks, management accounting, private banking, retail banking, commercial banking, and banking operations. On the other hand, various trends that will affect the banking industry in the future are covered. Furthermore, you will gain insights into the trend and changes that are driving the digital transformation among financial services providers as well as the FinTech revolution of the future and learn how sustainability can be integrated into business models and operations. # Overview

Blockchain is on everyone’s lips ‒ not least because the Crypto Valley stretching from Zug to Zurich is one of the global centres for this technology. But what is the story behind the new «Internet of Value»? What can this technology already do? What are its strengths, weaknesses, risks and areas of potential?

The CAS in Blockchain at the University of Zurich looks at these questions and in doing so addresses the topic at a uniquely wide-ranging level: computer scientists, lawyers, economists and financial specialists from the University of Zurich have joined forces to teach participants the technical basics as well as provide  them with legal tools and economic knowledge about the applications. In doing so, they are able to call on first-hand experience from academic blockchain projects, consulting activities and company start-ups.

In the first part, participants experience corporate management using a business simulation. The foundations of the course are laid by discussing core topics of traditional banking in an academically sound and practice-oriented manner. The Digital Transformation and Sustainability in Banking and Insurance courses prepare you for the two most important trend topics in banking of the future. The Digital Transformation course enables you to understand trends and changes that lead to uncertainties and shifts in financial services and to identify them in your company. In Sustainability, you will gain a systematic overview of the challenges, strategies and choices banks face when integrating sustainability into their business models and processes, so that you can then better implement the integration of sustainability in your company.

CAS in Leadership

In Banking and Finance, Risk Management is focused on the identification, the measurement, and the mitigation of different risk types. Several mathematical techniques and concepts from Finance are applied to quantify different types of risk.

This enables Risk Managers to take appropriate measures and mitigate the risks within a financial institution. In order to succeed in the long term, a company has to know the risk types that they are facing and how to manage them actively.

Participants have a graduate degree and several years of working experience. A certain level of mathematical knowledge is very beneficial and helpful for successful completion.

CAS Risk Management for Banking and Finance

# Structure

In the first part, the fundamentals of asset management are taught in a theoretically sound and practical manner. Along the investment process, topics such as portfolio optimization, efficient markets, investment strategies as well as the valuation and selection of stocks and bonds are highlighted. The knowledge acquired is then applied practically in a second part in a web-based simulation, with responsibility for the strategic and tactical investment strategy as well as the business management of a department.

Participants have a university degree and several years of professional experience. Basic knowledge of mathematics, statistics, accounting as well as finance is required, and preparatory courses are offered.

Theoretical fundamentals in asset management combined with a practical application of portfolio management through a simulation.

CAS Investment Management

Just a few years after completing a course of study, the market value of the specialist knowledge acquired has declined sharply as a result of natural forgetting and new knowledge. Regular continuing education
counteracts this and ensures an above-average competitive knowledge portfolio.

The program combines academic teaching and research with practice and at the same time promotes professional, methodological and social skills.

The CAS in Medical Leadership program is aimed at individuals with several years of leadership and/or management experience in the healthcare sector.

# Admission Requirements

Participants usually have a university degree at the master's level.

The CAS in Sustainable Finance adopts a modular structure that facilitates graduation alongside the workload of busy professionals. The program combines a set of compulsory core and elective courses. By choosing between the elective courses, you are able to define an area of specialization in different Sustainable Finance topics.\

CAS Sustainable Finance

# Topics

The Urban Management approach combines three levels:

1. Urban Sciences: scientifically grounded understanding of the economic, psychological, sociological, and politological contexts that shape built space.
2. Urban Governance: understanding the regulatory framework, its historical emergence, and inspiration for potential evolution to meet the challenges of spatial development.
3. Urban Leadership: understanding the motives and behaviors of individual stakeholder groups and learning concrete tools to actively initiate and shape transformation processes for cities, territories and real estate.

# Target Groups

The program is aimed at specialists and managers in regional and urban development as well as the real estate industry who wish to assume increased political and entrepreneurial responsibility. These include:

* Individuals from the fields of regional planning, politics and public administration.

* Real estate investment management

# A﻿dmission Criteria

* Degree from a university/ETH/university of applied sciences and professional experience (foreign degrees or professional qualifications are recognized if they have the same quality level as the Swiss equivalents).
* Very good oral and written German skills as well as good oral English skills.
* In exceptional cases, persons without a university degree are also admitted. The Executive Committee decides on admission "sur dossier". These applicants require several years of professional experience.
* The number of study places is limited to a maximum of 40.

The program imparts knowledge on urban development and cooperation between the Public Sector and the Real Estate industry.

CAS Urban Management

# Structure

In the course, various methods of business valuation as well as special cases of valuation (e.g. of banks and state-owned enterprises) are considered and current trends in the field of M&A are highlighted. Participants apply what they have learned to concrete M&A cases. Insights into the areas of private equity and venture capital as well as the basics of business taxation round off the course.

# Prerequisites

Participants have a university degree and several years of professional experience. Basic knowledge in mathematics, statistics, accounting as well as finance is required. Preparatory courses are offered.

Scientifically sound and practically relevant knowledge of company valuation, mergers & acquisitions, and corporate taxes.

CAS Valuation and M&A

Adapting rapidly and cost-efficiently in response to changes in the business environment triggered by trends and unplannable events is crucial to surviving. This seminar covers advanced innovation management theory and practice, referring to organizational agility and resilience. We provide strategic thoughts and suggest agile methods such as Scrum, Kanban, XP, DevOps, SAFe, LeSS, Lean Start-up, Design Thinking. Participants learn how to unlock the power of FinTechs to create effective business strategies for a future characterized by increasing dynamism, complexity, and uncertainty.

The interaction between biodiversity and finance has attracted an increasing amount of attention on a global scale. The scientific foundation of biodiversity will be explored with several essential concepts. Economic mechanism will highlight the horizon on which biodiversity and finance interacts. Understanding stakeholder expectations and requirements is key for companies in pursuing strategic goals. This course teaches the theoretical fundamentals of the market-oriented Real Estate valuation methods commonly used today and provides an overview of the most important national and international valuation norms and standards. It focuses on the valuation of investment properties from an investor's rather than a financier's point of view. The valuation of residential property is addressed in passing. # Topic

In recent years, an international movement called "Placemaking" has been established that systematically examines the success factors of vibrant urban spaces and neighborhoods and shows what can be generalized and transferred to other situations. The Placemaking approach differs from conventional planning and project development approaches in particular through the strong involvement of local actors and an iterative rather than linear understanding of planning (microinterventions, prototyping, observation and learning processes). This enables the effective integration of otherwise separate professional dimensions. 

The practical course with the Dutch Placemaking pioneer Hans Karssenberg offers an introduction to basic models and tools of Placemaking and shows with concrete examples how the Placemaking approach can be used to ensure optimal value, needs-based justice and local anchoring in area developments and area transformations - which also reduces the risks of vacancy, image damage or political blockades.

The changing regulatory environment and investor expectations are also leading to increasing reporting requirements and impacting costs. The course offers participants an overview and orientation on sustainability or ESG in the real estate sector and delves into the ecological and economic aspects. In doing so, scientifically based findings are conveyed, various regulations as well as terminology are classified and one's own attitude is reflected upon.
